More than just a pub..................
Went in November last year and have to say was really impressed.
Had Theakstons, Wold top and a Hambleton beer on.
Tried all Three (My Mrs Driving- god love her) all very good I have to say, roaring Fire and the place was more or less full.
Would highly recommend if you are in the vicinity.
"Nice local in a lovely village for walks..."
"Good pub, nice for a walk to. Got a good log fire and good ale."
Great atmosphere, even greater food, and the most fantastic welcome. Can't wait for my next visit. Many thanks to Abbie and Vito, Peter and all the bar people for the best time ever.
Had a very nice drop of Theakstons in here on Sunday 27th March 2011, pub itself was 'oldy-worldy', charming & welcoming!
I was there last Sunday Evening and found the pub had almost finished the renovation work, very nice to. The staff were lovely and even though it was very busy they still found time to talk to you and make you feel welcome. It was an Irish music night and as they say the craic was mighty. My only gripe was they had sold out of Guinness, this was due to an even busier Saturday when they had a Jazz & Blues night, but all the other beers were superb. I would gladly recommend you visit this watering hole I know I will be making an effort to get to the Folk Nights on 1st Thurs of each month.
I was walking in the Wolds way. We went in to The Goodmanham Arms. We were happy to find the pub which is open all day. The pub is full of character, is not many pubs left like the Goodmanham Arms, there was a selection of six real ales, and guest beers, we tried just about all of them, and they were spot on. We had some beef and ale stew, cooked in a open fire,in an old gipsy pot, the taste was excellent. We recommend the pub to all our friends, and if you are in the vicinity, pop in. www.qype.co.uk
"A real find!"
"The new landlord, Vito, has made some changes to the pub interior which overall are sympathetic and have gone down pretty well locally."

Went here today for dinner, such a welcoming pub, great staff and fantastic home cooked food. I had lamb shank which was to die for, followed by sticky toffee pudding. 2 open fires and a cosy atmosphere. As for the beer which is brewed on the premises wow!! Mischief maker ale is damn tasty. Will be going back again!!

A Great Local
I live in Goodmanham village but rarely visit the local pub.Visited yesterday with my partner and a friend for lunch. Pub very busy and tables at a premium. The food choices were excellent and the range of beers equally so. They are now brewing their own beer, and yes, that it top quality too. Most of the beers are £2.50...

I have little sympathy for the many sub standard pubs that are going out of business. Generally, pub food is mediocre at best and the quality of keg beer and cheap lagers is frankly embarrassing. I stopped attending a 'local' years ago because I was just fed up with it all.
People attribute the demise of the local pub to home entertainment, cheap supermarket booze and the smoking ban. That has something to do with it but generally, the formula for pubs - loud music, cheap beer, no atmosphere has to have something to do with it.
Now, if there were more pubs like the Goodmanham Arms, people would start going out again and business would be booming. It isn't rocket science... great, simple food, fabulous beer, a couple of open fires, candlelight and a friendly, welcoming landlord. This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Amazing place.
